Grammy-nominated Nigerian musician, Seun Kuti, has criticized the fanbase of award-winning singer Wizkid, known as Wizkid FC, for drawing comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Gossip News Now reports that Seun, during a recent Instagram livestream, called it disrespectful to label Wizkid as the modern-day Fela.

He went on to describe Wizkid fans as one of the most ignorant fanbases globally, warning them to stop equating the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer with his father.

Seun said, “Wizkid FC, keep Fela’s name out of your mouths. You try to claim that your artist is the new Fela. But when it became clear that the shoes were too big to fill, and people like me refused to let that insult slide… it’s truly an insult to make that comparison.

“You have no respect. I can respect defiance, but when disrespect comes from ignorance, I cannot. Your ignorance shows in how you repeatedly disrespect Fela online. Why must Fela always be dragged into trivial arguments? Overzealous fan behavior has negatively affected the music industry. Some artists even avoid collaborations because of fan rivalries.

“I honestly think Wizkid FC is the most ignorant fanbase in the world. You need to stop misbehaving and focus on your artist. Can’t you enjoy their music without constantly comparing it to someone else? The reason you feel the need to compare is because the music does not fully satisfy your spirit. You may act like you enjoy it, but deep down, it doesn’t fulfill you spiritually.”
