Former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, has officially left the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He completed his registration as an APC member at his residence in Ifaki-Ekiti.
The confirmation was given on Monday by Adesola Adedayo, the coordinator of the APC electronic registration exercise in Ekiti State.
Adedayo, who also holds the position of Commissioner for Youth Development, described Oni’s return as a significant advantage for the ruling party.
According to him, Oni’s registration on Sunday boosted the party’s electronic membership exercise, helping to strengthen APC’s progressive structure within the state.
He emphasized that the former governor remains a highly respected grassroots figure whose involvement will enhance the party’s value and improve its electoral prospects.
Oni previously governed Ekiti State from 2007 to 2010 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contested the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the SDP.
Adedayo noted that Oni’s move marks a major political shift as Ekiti prepares for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
He encouraged APC leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts across all local government areas, pointing out that Oni’s return follows shortly after Governor Biodun Oyebanji revalidated his APC membership.
He added that the development is expected to further strengthen the party’s influence at the grassroots level.
