Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to Gossip News Now , Ihedioha completed his registration on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Mbutu Ward in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, where he was issued ADC membership card Number 001.
The registration process was carried out by the Ward Secretary, Prince Obinna Opara, while the Ward Chairman, Chief Alex Ahamuefula, formally presented the membership card to the former governor.
Speaking after his registration, Ihedioha explained that his decision to join the ADC was intentional and based on the party’s values of accountability, integrity, and genuine service to the people.
He emphasized that both Nigeria and Imo State need leaders who prioritize public welfare and responsive governance.
“Our people want leaders who listen, who serve, and who place the collective interest above personal ambition. I believe the ADC provides a credible platform to pursue these objectives,” he said.
Ihedioha noted that registering at the ward level was a deliberate show of commitment to grassroots politics and inclusive participation.
The registration event was witnessed by several party stakeholders and community leaders, including Evangelist Dr. Obi Nwaigwe, the Mayor of Mbutu, and Hon. Jonathan Egbule, Chairman of Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area.
National ADC officials present at the event included the National Vice Chairman (South-East), Sir Bon Unachukwu; Deputy Diaspora Coordinator, Maigari Bello Kasimu; and Uko Nkole, Coordinator of the Nigerian Former Legislators Forum.
Unachukwu described Ihedioha’s membership as a significant boost to the party’s influence in the South-East and nationwide.
“The ADC is delighted to welcome a former governor and seasoned public servant whose joining strengthens our political capacity and appeal,” he stated.
The Imo State Chairman of the ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, led members of the State Executive Committee to officially receive Ihedioha.
Okoroma welcomed him on behalf of the party, stating that Ihedioha’s decision had enhanced the ADC’s standing in Imo State and reinforced its dedication to internal democracy and effective grassroots mobilisation.
