Rumours about Governor Abba Yusuf’s possible defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to intensify, with fresh reports alleging that the party’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has given his approval.
According to Gossip News Now , these reports, which circulated late Tuesday, insinuated that Kwankwaso—who has long been opposed to defections within the NNPP—had suddenly shifted his position and now supports the exit of major party figures, including Governor Yusuf.
However, the party’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, promptly dismissed the reports, condemning them as fabricated, malicious, and entirely false.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Johnson insisted that the rumours lacked any truth, saying:
“This is a wicked lie—one of the most shameful and blatant falsehoods crafted by people who clearly lack integrity or any moral direction.”
He stressed that those spreading the claims were attempting to distort Kwankwaso’s stance and mislead the public for their own agenda.
Johnson added, “Intentionally twisting his words to suggest that he has endorsed their planned defection is not only mischievous but embarrassingly childish.”
The NNPP spokesman also addressed individuals reportedly preparing to leave the party, advising them to do so openly rather than hiding behind false endorsements. He stated:
“We would prefer that these individuals simply exit the party if they have chosen to go. If they believe they are heading for greener pastures and have the backing of the people, then they should proceed.”
Johnson concluded by emphasizing that no one has the right to falsely claim that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso supports or approves their political decisions.
