The Federal Government has praised the Super Eagles for their resilience and spirited performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following their penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed the government’s appreciation for the team’s effort throughout the tournament.

Idris highlighted that the Super Eagles’ display reflected strong character, teamwork, and perseverance — qualities he emphasized as vital to the nation.

“Thank you for giving your all and representing Nigeria with pride and dignity,” he said.

“Even in defeat, you displayed character, teamwork, and resilience — traits that are deeply valued by the nation you represent.”

The minister also noted that the players’ commitment had earned admiration and gratitude from Nigerians both at home and abroad.

“Football has its ups and downs, but your effort, dedication, and fighting spirit throughout this competition have won the respect of Nigerians everywhere,” Idris added.

He further stressed that the Super Eagles reminded the nation that wearing the national jersey symbolizes courage, unity, and the will to never give up.

“You reminded us that wearing the green and white is about bravery, unity, and persistence,” he said.

“Lift your heads high, learn from this experience, stay united, and come back stronger. Nigeria remains proud of you and grateful for the joy and hope you brought to us during this tournament.”

BUA Group Chairman Confirms $500,000 Donation

In a show of continued support, Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, reaffirmed his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles, even after their semi-final loss to Morocco.

Originally promised as a reward for victory, Rabiu decided to honour the donation regardless of the result, demonstrating his commitment to the team.

The Super Eagles are now set to face Egypt in the AFCON third-place match on Saturday, aiming to end the tournament on a high note.
