Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has explained that the advanced nature of the weapons used in recent United States airstrikes in Nigeria made it impossible to recover the physical remains of neutralised terrorists.
Gossip News Now reports that Musa made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Thursday, noting that the terrorists were targeted using precision weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, which left no visible traces.
He stated, “They wouldn’t know, because the way they were neutralised, you wouldn’t see anything. It’s a new kind of weapon that was used—the Tomahawks.”
When asked about reports that some Tomahawk missiles failed to detonate, Musa explained that such outcomes are part of military strategy.
“That is all part of the tactics. In conflict attacks, you deceive your enemy. Those are all part of it,” he said.
According to the Defence Minister, Nigerian security forces simultaneously conducted coordinated operations against other targets while the US strikes were underway.
He added that the efforts have already yielded results and reassured Nigerians that further successes are expected.
“At least Nigerians are seeing the results, and they will witness more progress ahead. As we speak, the Nigerian Air Force, Navy, and Army are also neutralising several other areas. In fact, significant achievements have already been recorded since the start of January,” Musa stated.
