Film Set Explosion Claims Life of Renowned Nollywood Special Effects Expert James Akaie

A highly respected Nollywood special effects professional, James Akaie, has passed away.

According to reports from Naija News, filmmaker James Abinibi confirmed the unfortunate development in a statement shared on the RockBottom Flix Instagram page on Friday.

Abinibi explained that Akaie lost his life due to severe injuries sustained after an explosion occurred at a movie production site in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He noted that Akaie did not survive despite being rushed to the hospital, while two of his assistants who were involved in the incident suffered varying degrees of burns.

He stated, “While filming was ongoing, an unexpected blast erupted in an area designated for preparing special effects materials outside the main set. James had been testing an unauthorised pyrotechnic setup that involved a gas cylinder, assisted by two crew members.

“James later died from the injuries at the hospital. His two assistants, who sustained serious burns, were immediately taken to a specialist facility where they received urgent treatment. They have since been confirmed stable and are still undergoing medical care.”

In a separate development, Nollywood star Doris Ogala has triggered widespread concern after sharing deeply emotional posts online. In the messages, she revealed she is facing serious personal struggles and accused popular pastor Chris Okafor of contributing to her suffering.

A video circulating online shows Ogala in tears as she described a series of distressing events that have severely affected her emotional and mental health.

The actress revealed that she has not been well, recounting alleged miscarriages, her arrest and detention following public accusations she made against the cleric, along with troubling experiences in her marriage.

She further claimed that she once returned home to find her husband’s mistress and child present, saying the accumulation of all these incidents has become unbearable for her.
