The family of late gospel minister Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has officially suspended the burial programme earlier announced for her final rites.
Gossip News Now reports that the cancellation was made public on Saturday through a statement posted on social media by Lanre Alewilese, a close friend of the singer and a member of the burial committee.
Alewilese explained that the decision became necessary due to unresolved matters within the singer’s family. As a result, all plans previously coordinated by the burial committee have been withdrawn.
The statement read:
“To whom it may concern: This is to notify the public that all burial plans and arrangements for our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, put together by the Burial Planning Committee, have been completely cancelled. This has become necessary because of issues arising from within her family. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.”
Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12 at a Lagos hospital after battling a chronic leg-related health condition.
Her illness had attracted significant concern from members of the gospel music community, many of whom publicly prayed for her recovery before her passing.
Prior to the cancellation, full details of her burial schedule had already circulated online.
The programme included a service of songs, a candlelight procession, an artiste night, and interment, scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2026.
These arrangements were earlier shared by gospel singer Alayo Melody on behalf of the family.
At this time, the family has not provided a new burial date or updated plans.
