A political support group associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially removed his son, Abba Atiku Abubakar, from its membership.

According to reports, the group took this step after rejecting Abba’s call for its members to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision follows Abba’s public defection to the APC on Thursday, January 18, 2026, during which he encouraged all coordinators and supporters under his political network to join the ruling party and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

However, the Atiku Haske Organisation made it clear that Abba has no authority to determine its political direction or issue instructions on its behalf.

The group also rejected his proposal to rename the organisation in favor of President Tinubu, insisting that such a move contradicts its collective resolutions.

In a statement released in Abuja, the initiator and convener of the group, Mai Nagge Bakari, emphasized that Abba was not among the founders and holds no formal leadership position within the organisation.

Bakari went on to explain that Abba was invited to join the group and did not contribute to its establishment, financing, or registration.

He stated that Abba had made no financial input to its activities and did not possess any documents related to the group’s legal or administrative registration.

Based on these factors, the organisation stated that it is under no obligation to abide by any directive from Abba and has therefore decided to expel him from its membership.

The group reiterated its earlier decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that it has no intention of joining any other political party.

It described Abba’s defection as a breach of the group’s shared values and agreed strategic direction.

Despite distancing itself from Abba’s actions, the organisation reaffirmed its continued support for Atiku Abubakar, declaring that it still believes he represents its political vision and long-term goals.

The group declared Abba’s instructions invalid and cautioned him against presenting himself as a representative or member of the organisation.

Abba had earlier formalized his move to the APC at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, where he was received by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, along with other senior APC leaders from the North-East.

During the event, he pledged allegiance to President Tinubu’s re-election efforts and expressed admiration for the current administration.
