Hashimu Dungurawa, the immediate past Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to reconsider his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with Daily Post on Sunday, Dungurawa warned that while Yusuf’s re-election bid is secure on the NNPP platform, his political prospects could face significant challenges if he joins the APC.

“It is my sincere prayer that the governor does not leave our party. Departing now would create a vacuum that would be difficult to fill,” he said.

The former party chairman argued that the APC environment is politically hostile and would not favour the governor.

“Remaining in the NNPP is in his best interest because where he is planning to go is a camp filled with adversaries,” Dungurawa explained.
“Here in the NNPP, we are all supporting him. No one is working against him, and everyone wishes him well.”

Dungurawa insisted that Governor Yusuf’s path to a second term would be smooth if he stayed with the NNPP.

“If he remains in our party, he will automatically secure a second term as governor. There is no clear path where he is headed, so the wisest option is for him to stay with us,” he added.

He further pledged the party’s collective support for Yusuf’s re-election, affirming that the NNPP remains a strong political force in Kano State.

“Absolutely, we will work tirelessly for his victory in 2027 if he stays in the NNPP. I don’t see any reason for him to jump to another party when he is already in a comfortable position,” Dungurawa said.
“In 2027, the NNPP will outperform both the APC and PDP in Kano State,” he declared.

The governor is reportedly also under pressure from supporters of the NNPP national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, popularly known as the Kwankwasiyya Movement, who are actively working to prevent any alliance between Yusuf and the APC.

Sources indicate that the group has warned of potential political consequences in 2027 if the governor ignores their advice.
