The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed to 26th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Monday, marking a remarkable 12-place jump following their strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Nigeria’s senior national team moved up from 38th place in the previous ranking after securing the bronze medal at the continental tournament, a feat that has significantly enhanced their global standing.

The team’s third-place finish at AFCON 2025 represents one of their most consistent campaigns in recent years and is widely credited for the sharp rise in their FIFA ranking.

The improvement reflects Nigeria’s positive results against competitive opponents during the tournament, as well as their solid performances in recent international fixtures.

With the new ranking, the Super Eagles are now recognized as the third-best team on the African continent.

According to Gossip News Now , 2025 AFCON hosts Morocco occupy the top spot in Africa and are ranked eighth globally, while champions Senegal are Africa’s second-best team and sit 12th in the world.

Other African nations rounding out the top 10 on the continent include Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, DR Congo, and Mali.

Globally, Spain leads the FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina in second and France in third.

The remaining positions in the world’s top 10 include England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia.

Football analysts suggest that the Super Eagles’ rise in the rankings is a significant morale boost for Nigerian football and could positively affect the team’s seeding in upcoming international competitions.

Experts add that maintaining this upward momentum will require consistent performances, strategic team rebuilding, and strong results in forthcoming World Cup and AFCON qualifying matches.
