Nigerian music star Ikuforiji Olaitan, widely known as Oxlade, has shared the personal reasons behind his decision to stay away from smoking and hard drugs, attributing it to his strong family values and deep religious upbringing.
According to Gossip News Now , the Ku Lo Sa crooner opened up about this aspect of his life during a sincere conversation with renowned gospel singer, Tim Godfrey.
Oxlade explained that he was raised in a Christian home where music and faith played a central role. He noted that his background significantly influenced both his character and his approach to music.
The Afrobeats singer disclosed that his journey into music started within the church, where he actively served in the choir for many years, a foundation he believes molded his discipline and worldview.
Speaking further, Oxlade said he has never been involved in smoking or drug use, stressing that his long-standing commitment to church activities kept him grounded. He revealed that he once coordinated multiple church choirs, ranging from children’s and teenage groups to youth and adult congregations.
He added that music runs deeply in his family, highlighting that his grandmother is a deaconess with a powerful singing voice, while his grandfather was skilled in playing several musical instruments. According to him, his mother could both sing and dance, and there is also a pastor within the family.
Oxlade went on to express his strong belief in gospel music, describing it as the highest form of musical expression and noting that his songwriting ability is strongest in that genre.
Reflecting on his success, the singer stated that regardless of public opinions about him, he believes his achievements are divinely guided. He maintained that touring dozens of cities with a debut album is only possible through God’s grace, adding that as long as his steps are being directed by God, he has no cause for fear or concern.
