The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has announced the suspension of its State Chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams, following allegations of activities considered detrimental to the unity, stability, and progress of the party in the state.
The suspension decision was reached by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) after reviewing a formal petition accusing Williams of engaging in actions deemed harmful to the interests of the ADC in Nasarawa.
The resolution was adopted during a TLT meeting held on Wednesday at Otunsha Hotel, Keffi, presided over by Chief John Michael Abdul.
Confirming the development in an official statement, the party’s spokesperson, Comrade Idris Ojoko, disclosed that the suspension would remain in effect for 14 days, during which a disciplinary committee will investigate the allegations.
According to Ojoko, the temporary suspension is intended to allow for a comprehensive and impartial examination of the claims made against the embattled chairman.
Following the suspension, the party announced adjustments to its leadership framework to maintain administrative stability. Barrister Paul Magaji Ajeh, a former State Secretary, has been appointed Acting State Chairman, while Umar A. Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary.
Ojoko explained that the appointments were necessary to ensure smooth operations and continuity of party affairs during the investigation period.
The ADC accused Williams of several acts of anti-party behaviour, including his alleged refusal to acknowledge the authority of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator David Mark.
He was also accused of failing to integrate coalition members into the party’s organisational structure in Nasarawa State, allegedly in violation of directives issued by the national leadership.
Additionally, Ojoko alleged that Williams reported certain party leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police, branding them as impostors.
The party further claimed that Williams established parallel party structures across the state and obstructed efforts to set up official ADC offices at the state, local government, and ward levels, actions reportedly carried out in defiance of explicit instructions from the NWC.
He was also accused of interfering with the party’s ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise — a strategic initiative designed to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.
To thoroughly investigate the allegations, the TLT constituted a disciplinary panel chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu, with Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday, and Yunus Abdullahi Sidi as members, while Gaza Mark Auta will serve as Secretary.
Ojoko stated that the committee has been directed to conduct a fair and transparent inquiry and submit its report within the suspension timeframe.
The ADC leadership urged party members in Nasarawa State to remain peaceful and law-abiding, emphasising that the disciplinary process is aimed at promoting unity, accountability, and internal democracy.
“The party remains firmly committed to fairness, discipline, and collective development,” Ojoko added.
