Rivers State political figure, Annkio Briggs, has criticised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid escalating political tensions in the oil-rich state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Briggs insisted that Rivers State can continue to thrive even without Wike’s involvement.
Addressing the impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, Briggs challenged the so-called “agreement” being touted by lawmakers in consultation with Wike. She emphasised that the majority of Rivers residents support Fubara and rejected the notion that the state’s existence depends on Wike.
Briggs said, “What exactly is this agreement? Everyone keeps talking about it—Wike, the lawmakers, his supporters. They keep saying ‘agreement, agreement.’ Some even claim ‘no Wike, no Rivers State.’ That’s simply not acceptable. How can anyone suggest that a single person defines the existence of a whole state? That’s neither political nor reasonable.
“Perhaps in some places that might be tolerated, but it is not acceptable to the people of Rivers State. The reality is that most Rivers residents stand firmly behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara. His support is genuine and grassroots-driven.
“If, for any reason, the governor decides to join the APC to secure his position, his organic support remains fully with him.
“I may not belong to the APC, but as a proud daughter of Rivers State, I know where my allegiance lies during elections—it depends on what each candidate offers and the circumstances at the time.”
