Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has revealed that he promptly contacted top security officials nationwide following the abduction of residents in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor stated that he has nothing to hide and that his priority is the safe return of the victims. He added that he is not focused on disputes over how news of the incident emerged.

“We have nothing to hide about what happened in Kurmin Wali. As soon as the attack occurred, I met with all the heads of national security agencies,” Sani said.

He emphasised that in Kaduna, security matters are kept separate from politics. “We rely on information from our security agencies and trust them. They are the first people we call when there is trouble. Criticising them doesn’t help anyone,” the governor added.

The attack took place on Sunday when armed men entered Kurmin Wali village. Early reports indicate that over 170 people may have been abducted, causing widespread fear and confusion. While initial reports were questioned by police and state officials, the government later confirmed the attack, though the exact number of victims remains unverified.

Governor Sani said he is closely monitoring the rescue efforts and has engaged with key security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; Director-General of the DSS; and the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure swift action.

He also affirmed that his administration will not negotiate ransom. “We have a policy. We do not pay ransom,” he said.

The governor called on Kaduna residents to assist security agencies by providing useful information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility. “Government cannot handle this alone. Citizens must continue to collaborate with security agencies,” he added.
