Labour Party Leadership Crisis: Otti Applauds Court Decision Endorsing Usman-Led Caretaker Panel

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has welcomed the judgment delivered on Wednesday by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which officially recognised Senator Nenadi Usman as the Chairperson of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee. The governor described the ruling as a significant breakthrough capable of restoring harmony, unity, and proper structure within the party.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti extended his congratulations to Senator Usman, the committee’s Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and other members of the newly acknowledged leadership body.

According to Otti, the court verdict is both timely and encouraging, as it offers the party a fresh opportunity to rebuild, strengthen internal cohesion, and promote peaceful coexistence among members.

He characterised the ruling as the beginning of a renewed phase for the Labour Party, expressing optimism that the decision would reposition the party for effective organisation, enhanced governance delivery, and electoral success across all levels.

The governor further urged the newly recognised leadership to adopt an all-inclusive, focused, and principled style of leadership, strictly guided by the party’s constitution and core principles of justice, unity, and peace.

Otti also appealed to dissatisfied members engaged in what he termed unnecessary legal battles to abandon hostilities, honour the court’s decision, and rejoin the party in good faith.

He assured that all returning members would be welcomed back with forgiveness and reintegrated appropriately, provided they demonstrate a commitment to lawful conduct and party unity.

Commending the judiciary, Governor Otti described the judgment as sound and consistent with an earlier Supreme Court ruling on the Labour Party’s leadership dispute, noting that the decision reinforces public confidence in the nation’s judicial system.

He added that the ruling once again underscores the judiciary’s role as a cornerstone of democracy, while reaffirming his administration’s dedication to strengthening democratic values and sustaining peace and stability nationwide.

In a related development, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Emmanuel Otti, also praised the Abuja court ruling, describing it as a triumph for justice and fairness.

He stated that the decision has restored public trust in the judicial process and criticised the faction led by Julius Abure, asserting that any attempt to overturn the ruling at the Court of Appeal would be unsuccessful.

According to him, further legal action would amount to a waste of time, insisting that the judgment is firm and will remain binding under legal scrutiny.
