Popular Nigerian content creator, Kuye Adegoke, widely known as Egungun of Lagos, has finally responded to the backlash that followed his brief and somewhat awkward interaction with American streamer IShowSpeed during the latter’s recent visit to Lagos.
The short interview, which surfaced online on January 22, 2026, captured Egungun engaging IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, during a bustling public appearance in the city.
In the viral clip, Egungun asked the streamer about his age and expressed visible surprise when IShowSpeed revealed he was 21, remarking on his physique and healthy appearance.
The brief exchange quickly gained traction across social media platforms, triggering mixed reactions from viewers, with many criticising Egungun’s approach, while others sympathised with the pressure of the moment.
Reacting to the online criticism, Egungun took to his social media page to clarify that he was overwhelmed by tension and pressure due to the heavy crowd and intense security presence surrounding the streamer.
He wrote: “No vex for me, it was tension.”
IShowSpeed’s Lagos visit attracted massive attention, with fans and content creators swarming around him, making it challenging for many to get close or secure enough time for meaningful interactions.
Several Nigerian influencers were seen attempting to capture the streamer’s attention amid the frenzy.
While some social media users faulted Egungun for not maintaining composure during the interview, others defended him, noting that the atmosphere was highly charged and the opportunity to speak with IShowSpeed was extremely limited.
