Former APC governorship aspirant, Rufai Durotoye, has raised alarm that his life is under threat following his public criticism of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration in Osun State.
In a petition submitted to the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Durotoye requested a discreet investigation to prevent any unforeseen harm to his life.
The petition, filed by his lawyer, Kehinde Adesiyan, alleged that Durotoye had received two visits to his residence and multiple anonymous phone calls warning him to retract his statements regarding what he described as unequal infrastructure development under Governor Adeleke’s administration.
Durotoye, a US-based mathematician who also contested for the APC governorship ticket in the August 8 election, had earlier criticized the state government in an interview for favoring certain areas in infrastructure projects.
The petition stated, in part, “Our client is making this urgent appeal to ensure that those invited for questioning give assurance that no lives will be lost, particularly the life of our highly valued client, who supports many dependents.”
Speaking to Leadership on Friday, Durotoye, who is currently abroad, explained that in addition to the threatening calls, unidentified individuals allegedly visited his residence in Osogbo, leaving a message demanding that he retract his criticism of the governor, warning of consequences otherwise.
He maintained that as both a politician and a citizen of Osun State, voicing concerns about state affairs is a legitimate exercise of his civic rights and is intended to offer constructive feedback for the government.
