Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has shared the intense sacrifices and discipline that shaped her journey to success, revealing that she deliberately withdrew from social life for several years to build her career.
During a recent media interaction, the award-winning actress disclosed that she intentionally denied herself many comforts and pleasures in order to achieve the level of success she enjoys today.
Akindele explained that she confined herself within Amen Estate for three years, using that period to focus on developing her brand and producing multiple creative projects that later became major milestones in her career.
The 48-year-old mother of two admitted that she sacrificed social outings, vacations, parties, events, and even friendships, choosing instead to remain fully dedicated to her craft.
In her words, “Hard work is truly hard work. It means putting in the effort when necessary and denying yourself many things others would normally chase, just to reach your goals. When I talk about hard work, I mean locking myself away in Amen Estate for three solid years, building the Jenifa brand, working on Industreet, Aiyetoro, My Siblings and I, and many other projects.
“I gave up vacations, parties, events, friendships — everything. It was just me and my team, working relentlessly, creating and pushing ourselves to achieve the success people see today. So, when I speak about hard work, I mean real sacrifice and dedication.”
She further explained that her commitment to excellence reflects strongly on movie sets, where she remains actively involved in every stage of production.
“When I’m on set, I’m not a diva. I’m hands-on, everywhere, no wigs, just my simple cornrows, ensuring everything runs perfectly. I stay fully involved until filming is complete, before shifting focus to promotion, glamour, and celebration. That’s how hard work eventually transforms into success,” she added.
