Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has marked a major milestone in his career, securing his first trophy with Qatari side Al Ahli following their dramatic triumph in the UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup.

Al Ahli defeated UAE side Al Jazira in a nail-biting encounter that went to penalties, prevailing 4-3 after regulation time ended in a draw at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday night.

The victory earned the Doha-based club its first title of the 2025–2026 season, providing an uplifting start to the campaign.

Although Troost-Ekong, who recently joined Al Ahli from Saudi Arabia’s Al Kholood, did not feature in the match, the win marks a promising beginning to his tenure with the club.

The 32-year-old defender has signed a contract that will keep him at Al Ahli until June 2028, committing his services to one of Qatar’s most prominent football teams.
