The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has dismissed ongoing speculations suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima might be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Morka explained that President Tinubu’s political history, particularly his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, makes such assumptions largely speculative.
According to him, the party’s decision to endorse President Tinubu for a second term automatically extends to the sitting Vice President.
He stated, “The choice of a Vice President, when the time comes, is usually subject to internal party consultations and deliberations to determine who occupies that position.
“However, when the party endorses the President, it also, by implication, endorses the current Vice President, even if his name is not specifically mentioned, because it is the President whose name appears on the ballot.
“It is therefore inaccurate to simply presume otherwise on the basis of the joint ticket arrangement. The President’s past experience as governor shows that he has had occasions to change his deputies, which reflects established political practices.
“Yet, this very history is why the current discussions remain largely speculative.”
