Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has stated that he has not anointed any candidate to succeed him in the 2027 governorship election, emphasizing that the decision should rest solely on the democratic choice of the people.

Zulum made this known late Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Government House in Maiduguri, where he addressed party leaders, elected officials, and members.

The governor clarified that he has no favoured aspirant for any political office and does not know who will eventually emerge as his successor, should the APC retain the governorship seat in 2027.

“I do not have a candidate for any position, and I have no idea who will succeed me. I have committed that decision to Almighty Allah, in line with the democratic will of party members and the people of Borno State,” Zulum said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the principles of the APC, stressing that fairness, transparency, and justice must guide the conduct of the forthcoming party congresses.

According to him, upholding the integrity of the process is vital for preserving party unity and ensuring the APC’s continued success in the state.

Zulum cautioned against imposition, warning that any attempt to manipulate outcomes could weaken the party’s structure and diminish public trust.

He also called for the emergence of a new generation of party leaders, encouraging stakeholders to allow fresh faces to assume key leadership roles within the party.

The governor added that an open, transparent, and inclusive process would strengthen the party’s grassroots base and promote deeper internal democracy across Borno State.

Zulum concluded by urging party stakeholders to set aside personal ambitions and work collectively toward building a stronger, more cohesive, and united APC in the state.
