The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has published a provisional schedule for the conduct of its primary elections ahead of the 2026 local government elections in Anambra State.

The party stated that the timetable was approved in accordance with the provisions of its constitution as well as the electoral calendar issued by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

In a statement released on Thursday in Awka, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, disclosed that the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms would begin on January 27.

He explained that the process would run until February 6 at the party’s regional secretariat in Awka.

According to Opara, the screening of aspirants seeking the positions of chairman and councillor is scheduled to take place between February 7 and February 11.

He added that the screening exercise would be conducted across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

The statement further indicated that appeals arising from the screening process would be treated on February 13.

It also revealed that ward congresses for the selection of councillorship candidates and ad-hoc delegates have been fixed for February 14.

APGA also announced that the chairmanship primary election will be conducted on February 15 in Awka.

“The chairmanship primary election will take place on February 15, while appeals resulting from the primaries will be addressed on February 16, all in Awka,” the statement noted.

The party equally released the approved cost of nomination forms for aspiring candidates.

Chairmanship aspirants are required to pay ₦6 million, while those contesting for councillorship positions are to pay ₦600,000.

APGA further stated that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities would benefit from a 50 per cent discount on the cost of forms.

It emphasized that all payments made for the purchase of nomination forms are non-refundable and noted that the timetable remains provisional and subject to adjustment where necessary.

The party urged all interested candidates to strictly comply with its guidelines and adhere to all relevant electoral regulations throughout the exercise.
