The Kwara State Government has authorised the reopening of schools that were previously closed in parts of the state due to security challenges.

The approval was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who confirmed that affected schools are expected to resume academic activities on Monday, February 2, 2026.

The statement, signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, indicated that school authorities in the affected local government areas have already been formally informed of the decision.

According to the government, the reopening follows an improvement in the security situation across the affected communities, although vigilance remains a priority.

“The government considers the security situation to have improved significantly compared to previous weeks. Nevertheless, sustained vigilance is being maintained,” the statement said.

It further noted that security operations are still ongoing to address residual threats and ensure the safety of residents, including students and school personnel.

“Security efforts continue steadily to consolidate recent gains, while the government works to strengthen community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic operations,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army, through troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, has intensified coordinated offensive operations against terrorist elements operating within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) in Kwara State.

The development was disclosed on Friday evening by Captain Maureen Ogbuka, who spoke on behalf of the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

She stated that the successes recorded in the operations were achieved with substantial support from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
