In a major fiscal move, the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has released ₦2.45 trillion to Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fund key infrastructure and security initiatives nationwide.

The announcement was made by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, via his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account. He revealed that the disbursements took place over a 17-month period, spanning March 2024 to August 2025, highlighting the administration’s commitment to sustained development efforts.

According to Bwala, the funding is intended to help state governments and the FCT address pressing needs, including the rehabilitation of roads and bridges, upgrading schools and healthcare facilities, and strengthening security operations to protect communities across the country.

He emphasised that collaborative fiscal arrangements between federal and subnational governments are a standard global practice, noting that countries such as the United States regularly provide federal funds to states and local authorities to ensure effective delivery of essential services.

Bwala also pointed out that similar funding models are employed in India and other developed nations, where central governments allocate resources to regional authorities to facilitate large-scale infrastructure projects and essential services closer to citizens.

The presidential aide reassured Nigerians that the Tinubu administration remains committed to close cooperation with state governments to drive national growth and enhance the quality of life for citizens.

He linked the allocations to the broader objectives of President Tinubu’s 2025 Budget of Restoration, which prioritises security, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, while stressing that the administration will ensure transparency in fund utilisation, accelerate development in energy and transportation, create job opportunities, and elevate living standards through effective federal-state collaboration.
