Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reacted to the reported killing of 162 people in parts of Kwara State, describing the incident as a tragic indication of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.

The deadly attacks were said to have occurred in Woro and Nuku communities, prompting widespread concern and renewed calls for urgent action against insecurity.

Call for Swift Government Response

In a statement shared on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account under the title “Killings in Kwara: We Must Act Now,” Obi expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and extended his sympathies to families and communities affected by the violence.

According to him, the continued loss of innocent lives reflects a serious failure on the part of the nation and highlights the urgent need to confront growing insecurity across the country.

He stressed that the scale and frequency of violent attacks in Nigeria now rival, and in some cases exceed, those experienced in countries facing active conflict.

Appeal for Justice and Protection of Lives

The former Anambra State governor urged security agencies and relevant authorities to respond decisively by restoring peace in the affected areas and ensuring that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.

He also called on government at all levels to reassure citizens that their safety remains a priority, emphasising that every Nigerian life matters and must be protected.

Obi concluded by reiterating the need for a coordinated national effort to end the cycle of violence and prevent further bloodshed.
