Edo Political Tension Deepens As PDP Demands Action Over Alleged Remarks By APC Chairman

Fresh political controversy has emerged in Edo State after the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address alleged comments linked to the acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe.

The opposition party claimed the APC chieftain allegedly made remarks perceived by many as threatening toward a female citizen who criticised the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

In a reaction issued through its Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the PDP argued that statements capable of intimidating critics could damage democratic values and weaken public confidence in political freedom.

According to the party, reports surrounding the controversy suggested that Jarrett Tenebe allegedly requested details relating to the identity and location of the woman involved after she openly criticised the state government. The PDP maintained that political disagreement should never escalate into actions capable of creating fear among citizens.

Rather than treating the incident as ordinary political rhetoric, the opposition insisted the matter deserves serious attention because of its potential impact on freedom of expression within the state.

PDP Questions APC’s Future Election Vote Projections

The political dispute also expanded into electoral matters after the PDP challenged claims allegedly made by Jarrett Tenebe and Governor Monday Okpebholo regarding support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in future elections.

The APC leadership had reportedly spoken about delivering nearly 3.5 million votes for the President in Edo during a future presidential contest. However, the PDP argued that available records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicate that the state’s registered voter population remains below 2.7 million.
