Abdulkareem Explains Why Peter Obi Is Pursuing ADC Presidential Ticket

Ibrahim Abdulkareem, the Director-General of Big TENT Nigeria, has shed light on why former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is seeking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Abdulkareem stated that Obi’s interest in the ADC goes far beyond personal ambition or entitlement.

He emphasized that Obi is driven by a broader goal of national unity and genuine system reform rather than a quest for power for its own sake.

According to Abdulkareem, “Peter Obi didn’t suddenly appear in the ADC. He has been involved from the beginning, and he made that very clear to anyone willing to listen.”

He explained that Obi agreed to be part of the ADC coalition only on the condition that the alliance would not merely be about acquiring power but about building a workable system for Nigeria—something citizens have long desired.

Abdulkareem continued, “He said he would join the coalition if it was aimed at creating a structure that truly serves Nigeria, because Nigerians have been yearning for sincere and effective leadership.”

He noted that Obi engaged extensively with his supporters—the Obidients—before making any formal move toward the ADC, a level of consultation he described as uncommon among Nigerian politicians.

“Unlike others, including President Bola Tinubu, he held discussions with his base before declaring his intentions. There is no meeting or forum where Peter Obi is demanding the ADC ticket as a birthright or special favour,” he said.

Instead, Abdulkareem stressed that Obi’s message has been consistent: his previous track record, the expectations of Nigerians, and his efforts to build unity are what qualify him—especially his appeal to young Nigerians who aspire to a renewed and hopeful future for the country.
