Accord Party Crisis Preceded Adeleke’s Defection – Imumolen

A senior figure within the Accord Party, Christopher Imumolen, has clarified that the party’s ongoing internal disagreements did not start with the arrival of Ademola Adeleke. According to him, the leadership challenges currently being discussed had been present long before the Osun governor associated himself with the party.

Imumolen made the remarks during an appearance on The Morning Brief aired by Channels Television, where he addressed questions about tensions within the political organization.

Disputes Already Underway

During the interview, the party leader explained that internal disagreements had been ongoing for some time. He said several steps had already been taken to address the matter, including legal action and discussions held at the party’s national secretariat.

According to him, these measures were aimed at resolving the differences and stabilizing the party long before Adeleke’s involvement became part of the political conversation.

Why the Public Heard Little About the Issues

Imumolen suggested that many Nigerians were unaware of the disputes because party officials intentionally kept the matter away from the public eye. In his view, political organizations often prefer to resolve internal conflicts quietly rather than expose them to public scrutiny.

He noted that maintaining discretion is sometimes considered necessary in order to prevent unnecessary speculation and preserve unity among members.

Previous Media Discussions

Although the issues were largely handled internally, Imumolen revealed that he had referenced the situation in earlier media engagements. Through those discussions, he sought to explain the party’s efforts to manage disagreements while maintaining stability.

He emphasized that the leadership had consistently been working toward ensuring that the party remains functional and cohesive despite the challenges it faced.

Responsibility to Maintain Unity

The Accord Party leader also stated that the party’s leadership carries the responsibility of guiding its members and safeguarding its direction. In his remarks, he indicated that the presence or absence of any particular politician does not change the party’s broader commitment to unity.

According to him, the leadership’s primary goal is to ensure that the party continues to operate effectively and remains focused on its political objectives.

Commentary and Analysis

Imumolen’s remarks reflect a common reality within political organizations, where internal disagreements often exist but are not always visible to the public. Political parties frequently attempt to manage disputes privately in order to avoid weakening their public image.

However, when prominent figures join a party, existing tensions can suddenly receive increased attention, leading observers to assume that the new entrant caused the conflict.

In the case of the Accord Party, Imumolen’s explanation suggests that the disputes have deeper roots and were already being addressed through internal mechanisms before Adeleke’s involvement.

The situation highlights the delicate balance political parties must maintain between transparency and internal conflict management. While keeping disagreements out of the spotlight may help preserve stability, it can also lead to misunderstandings about the origins of political tensions when those disputes eventually become public.
