Civil society advocate and former Executive Director of Enough is Enough (EiE), Yemi Adamolekun, has turned down her appointment into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) newly established Wise Men and Women Policy and Manifesto Committee.

Reports indicate that the ADC, on Wednesday, announced the formation of a 50-member policy and manifesto committee, following approval from the party’s National Working Committee and its National Chairman, Senator David Mark.

The committee comprises notable Nigerians drawn from various professional and societal backgrounds, including former public officeholders, academics, technocrats, policy analysts, civil society actors, and other professionals. Together, they bring extensive expertise in governance, economic planning, social development, security, and democratic reforms.

The committee is chaired by former Edo State Governor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, with Professor Pat Utomi serving as Deputy Chairman, while Salihu Lukman acts as Secretary.

According to the party, the committee has been mandated to develop a clear, coherent, and credible policy framework that captures the aspirations of Nigerians and positions the ADC as a viable platform for responsible governance and national transformation.

However, reacting to the announcement, Adamolekun expressed strong reservations about the inclusion of her name without her prior knowledge or consent.

In a post on her verified 𝕏 account, she questioned the process through which her name appeared on the list, describing the move as unprofessional and counterproductive to building credibility. She also clarified that she is not a member of the ADC.

Sharing a screenshot of the committee list, she wrote, “ADC! ADC!! ADC!!! How many times did I call you? This is not how to build credibility o!!! Please show me proof of when I joined your party. Na wa…”

In response, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that membership of the committee was not limited to party members or career politicians.

He said, “It is important to clarify that not everyone appointed to the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee is a member of the party. In fact, many are not politicians at all.

“This is because the ADC believes that formulating effective public policies for the benefit of Nigerians should involve professionals from diverse backgrounds, not politicians alone.

“Throughout the vetting process, we ensured that all individuals recommended for this important assignment were duly informed and had given their consent.

“We sincerely hope that Ms Adamolekun will reconsider and agree to serve, given her wealth of experience, even though she is not a member of our party.”
