A major faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has suspended three top party officials over alleged misconduct and actions said to undermine the party’s integrity and structure.

The suspended officials are State Secretary Yusuf Alkali, Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone) Abba Galadima, and State Publicity Secretary Murtala Ali.

Gossip News Now reports that the suspension was announced in a statement issued following an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee on Tuesday in Sokoto.

The committee cited links between the affected officials and activities deemed anti-party, including breaches of trust and conduct threatening the party’s unity.

“These measures are essential to safeguard the stability and progress of ADC in Sokoto State,” the statement read. “Behaviour that jeopardises the unity of the party will not be tolerated.”

The resolution was approved by 25 of the 33 members of the State Executive Council and signed on their behalf by Deputy Chairperson Bello Illela.

The faction also reaffirmed Bello Keegan as the legitimate Chairman of Sokoto ADC, warning Umar Mohammed to stop presenting himself as the state party leader. Mohammed was accused of conducting “fraudulent, illegal activities intended to mislead the public” and attempting to destabilise the party for personal gain.

“The Sokoto ADC has only one recognised chairman, and that is Bello Keegan,” the statement emphasised.

Naija News reports that ongoing factional rivalry has led to parallel meetings and conflicting directives, heightening tension within the state chapter.

According to the committee, the suspension of the three officials and reaffirmation of Keegan’s leadership are critical steps to restore order and enforce organisational discipline within the party.

“The vote of confidence in Mr. Keegan was necessary to preserve unity, stability, and discipline,” the statement added.
