The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “dead and awaiting its obituary,” insisting that the ADC has emerged as the only viable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gossip News Now reports that the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the statement on Saturday, October 18, during the unveiling of the party’s new secretariat in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Abdullahi, a former Minister of Sports, said the ADC is prepared to position itself as the credible alternative Nigerians have been seeking.

He stated, “The question is no longer whether Kwarans want the APC — that has been answered. They don’t. The question now is whether we can convince them that the ADC is the only alternative, and that’s exactly what we will do in the coming elections.”

Lamenting the rising insecurity in Kwara communities, Abdullahi said the situation had crippled agricultural activities and disrupted livelihoods.

“Our people can no longer farm safely. The government must do more to restore peace and protect the lives of citizens,” he added.

Also speaking, former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, described the unveiling of the ADC secretariat as the beginning of “a new political journey” for the state.

“This marks a new direction in our political experience. The ADC is set to entrench a party that truly reflects the aspirations of Kwarans,” Ahmed said.

Meanwhile, Naija News recalls that the PDP has been rocked by a wave of defections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The opposition party has lost four sitting governors — Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa) — as well as its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, to the APC.

Reacting to the trend, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told Arise Television that the defections were motivated by “greed and selfishness,” insisting that the PDP remains a credible opposition platform.

“To the best of my knowledge, there’s no justifiable reason for a governor, especially one on a second term, to abandon the party that produced him — except for covetousness and greed,” he stated.

He maintained that despite the defections, “it is not governors who sustain a political party, but the people,” expressing confidence that those leaving the PDP would ultimately regret their decisions.
