The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the violent disruption of its legitimate party activities in Borno State, emphasizing that the inauguration of the Borno State Transitional Committee and Membership Registration Committees was fully authorized by the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the party, the process that led to the emergence of Mallam Kashim Imam as Chairman of the Transitional Committee was conducted strictly in line with the ADC Constitution, established procedures, and approvals given by the NWC.

In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the actions of those who attempted to obstruct the exercise as unacceptable, undemocratic, and contrary to the party’s foundational principles.

The party urged the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security bodies to carry out a professional and unbiased investigation into the alleged attacks on ADC members in Borno State, and to ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable.

The statement read in part:
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to clarify that the inauguration of the Borno State Transitional Committee and the Membership Registration Committees was conducted in full adherence to the guidelines and authorizations provided by the National Working Committee (NWC).

“The ADC condemns in clear terms the conduct of certain individuals who, while claiming to be party members, engaged in violent and disruptive behaviour aimed at derailing a lawful party exercise. Such actions violate the ADC Constitution, undermine the party’s values, and contradict our long-standing commitment to internal democracy and orderly political participation.

“As a law-abiding political organization guided by established rules and institutional processes, the ADC will not allow its internal affairs to be manipulated by individuals acting without proper mandate or those driven by personal interests that threaten party cohesion and stability.

“We call on law enforcement agencies to take seriously the reported attacks against ADC members in Borno State and to conduct thorough investigations to identify and prosecute all those involved. There is no justification—under any circumstance—for political violence.

“The ADC remains dedicated to peaceful political engagement, internal democratic practices, and the rule of law. The party will continue to take all necessary legal and internal actions to safeguard its members, its processes, and the integrity of the organization.”
