The Bala-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally ruled out backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his bid for re-election in 2027.
Reports by Gossip News Now indicate that the faction made this position known during the inauguration of its zonal and state congress and appeal committees across the country.
The ceremony, held on Sunday in Abuja, was presided over by the factional National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala, who described the exercise as a key step in strengthening the party’s internal democratic structures and positioning the ADC as a credible opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bala explained that the newly inaugurated committees would oversee the planning and execution of congresses at the zonal, state, local government, and ward levels, in strict compliance with the party’s constitution and Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
He added that the committees are mandated to enforce constitutional standards, implement approved congress guidelines, and ensure proper electoral procedures, including voting, ballot management, and the declaration of results.
Bala called on members nationwide to remain united and focused on building a stronger ADC based on justice, equity, and fairness.
The ADC factional chairman also distanced the party from a recent statement attributed to Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, which reportedly expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election.
“That statement does not represent the position of the African Democratic Congress under our leadership as a determined opposition party,” Bala said.
“We completely reject any association with it and reaffirm our commitment to remaining a strong opposition force in Nigeria’s political space.”
During his acceptance remarks, Dr. Abimikun Monday, Chairman of the Congress Committee for the North-West geopolitical zone, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in repositioning the party.
He pledged that all congresses under his supervision would be conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and approved guidelines, noting that the trust placed in the committee by national leadership is a call to duty.
Similarly, Sani Aliyu Mohammed, the Kaduna State Chairman of the ADC, reaffirmed the party’s determination to attain political power through democratic means.
He added that the ADC would ramp up mobilisation and grassroots organisation across states and local government areas as part of its strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
