The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised for a significant political uplift as Hon. Ken Pela, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, concludes plans to formally align with the party.

Reports by New Telegraph indicate that Pela is scheduled to officially declare his defection to the ADC on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Political analysts are already describing the development as a major turning point for the ADC in Delta State, especially with less than two years to the 2027 general elections. The move is widely seen as a signal of shifting political alliances and an evolving power structure within the state.

In a statement released by Pela’s media team, it was disclosed that the defection event is expected to draw the presence of top national officials of the African Democratic Congress, as well as prominent political leaders from across the South-South region.

According to the statement, Pela’s decision underscores increasing confidence in the ADC as a viable, citizen-oriented alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties.

The team explained that Pela was attracted to the ADC due to shared principles, including issue-based governance, internal party democracy, accountability, and a commitment to purposeful leadership.

Observers believe that Pela’s entry into the party could substantially boost the ADC’s grassroots reach and improve its electoral competitiveness in Delta State ahead of the 2027 polls.
