The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has kicked off its preparations for the 2027 general elections in Borno State, inaugurating both a Transitional Committee and a Membership Registration Committee to fortify its organizational structure and electoral readiness.

The event, held on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Maiduguri, drew party leaders and stakeholders from across the state. ADC Deputy National Chairman (North-East), Babagana Buhari, described the committee formations as a “critical step toward reinforcing the party’s operational framework ahead of the next electoral cycle.”

The Transitional Committee has been assigned to Alhaji Ali Wurge as chair, with Fali Wabulari taking on the role of secretary. Meanwhile, the Membership Registration Committee will be led by Peter Biye, with Kolo Bukar as secretary. These committees are expected to work in tandem to expand membership, consolidate party structures, and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across Borno State.

Several prominent party figures were inaugurated at the ceremony, including former Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly Bulama Fugu, Kashim Imam Matawalle, Nicolas Msheliza, Attom Magira, Umar Alkali Nasco, Umara Kumalia, Tijjani Amadu Yarwama, Fatima Zarah, Mohammad Ali Jajari, Hauwa Kwajafa, Bukar Kachallah, Sadiq Mamman Gadai, Lawan Kolomi, and Babakura Abba Yusuf. Their involvement signals the ADC’s determination to leverage experienced leaders in its statewide electoral strategy.

“Unity, focus, and collaboration are essential as we prepare for the 2027 elections. Each member’s commitment will determine the party’s ability to make meaningful electoral gains,” Matawalle told attendees, stressing the importance of collective effort in achieving political objectives.

The committees are tasked with more than administrative duties. They will coordinate membership drives, monitor local party structures, and ensure that ADC maintains a visible and active presence at the grassroots level. Party officials highlighted that these measures are part of a broader strategy to solidify influence within Borno State while projecting the ADC as a competitive alternative in the upcoming polls.

Analysts note that early committee installations are a tactical move by the ADC to address historical challenges in party cohesion and grassroots engagement. By involving seasoned politicians and community leaders, the party aims to enhance credibility, build local support networks, and establish a foundation for sustained political operations across the North-East.

This initiative underscores the ADC’s proactive approach, signalling to both members and rival parties that it intends to be a formidable contender in the 2027 elections, especially in strategic states like Borno. Observers anticipate that similar preparatory measures may soon roll out in other key regions to ensure nationwide readiness.
