The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the defection of the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, describing her move as a demonstration of courage and integrity.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Senator Kingibe’s decision to join the ADC reflects her principled stance at a time when many politicians are aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abdullahi noted that the Senator could have easily joined the “bandwagon” by defecting to the APC but chose a different path.
“The African Democratic Congress warmly welcomes the Senator representing Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Senator Ireti Kingibe, to the ADC. Her decision speaks to her courage and integrity at a time when it would have been easier to join the gravy train,” he wrote on his 𝕏 account.
He further hinted that more prominent political figures are expected to defect to the ADC in the coming days.
“Nigerians should keep their eyes on the political space. More developments will unfold in the coming days. Na small e remain,” Abdullahi added.
Gossip News Now recalls that Senator Kingibe recently left the Labour Party (LP) to join the ADC.
The defection was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by her media aide, Kennedy Mbele, who said the move officially marked her exit from the LP and her entry into the ADC.
According to the statement, the registration ceremony will be attended by senior ADC officials, party candidates contesting the February 21 FCT area council elections, party supporters, and members of the media.
Mbele also noted that Kingibe’s decision makes her the only serving senator in the relatively new but growing opposition party.
