The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has debunked rumours circulating online suggesting that the party has already chosen its candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the reports as false, misleading, and not linked to any official ADC communication channel.

“ADC does not hand-pick candidates, and no individual has been selected ahead of the primary process,” Abdullahi clarified.

He noted that the party has already announced the official date for its Osun primaries, reaffirming ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and adherence to due process.

According to him, the misleading claims originated from unverified posts and publications, not from any authorised source within the party.

Abdullahi stressed that no aspirant can be recognised as a candidate until the party’s legitimate organs conduct the primaries.

“Until our authorised organs conduct the primaries, no candidacy is valid or recognised,” he said.

He further assured party members and the general public that all aspirants would be given a free, fair, and level playing field.

“We urge the public to disregard such reports,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Jalingo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar declared that the ADC is strategically positioned for significant political advancement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, who completed his formal registration as an ADC member last week Thursday in Yola, Adamawa, made the disclosure in a post shared on 𝕏 on Friday.

He also posted photographs showing him receiving his ADC membership card and a customised “Waziri 01” jersey, which added a symbolic touch to the brief event.

According to Naija News, the registration ceremony attracted party leaders, community figures, youth groups, and loyal supporters from across Adamawa.

Highlighting the party’s expanding influence, Atiku pointed to the ADC’s growing grassroots presence nationwide. He wrote: “Yesterday, the ADC train made a stopover in Jalingo for the unveiling of the Taraba State secretariat of the Coalition Party. There’s no stopping the ADC; it is heading your way.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Ovation magazine publisher Dele Momodu called on key opposition figures to form a strategic alliance with Atiku Abubakar, describing it as a necessary “rescue mission” for Nigeria.

Momodu, who delivered the keynote lecture at the closing ceremony of a week-long celebration in Jada marking Atiku’s birthday, traced the former Vice President’s political trajectory and praised his democratic commitment and non-violent approach.
