Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been officially declared the sole governorship candidate of the Accord Party, just hours after his high-profile defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Around 150 party delegates—five from each of the state’s 30 local government areas—attended the event to affirm Adeleke as the party’s candidate.
The governor formally resigned from the PDP on Tuesday evening, citing persistent leadership challenges and crises within the party’s national structure as the reason for his departure. He immediately joined the Accord Party, signaling his intention to run for a second term under a new platform.
A statement issued on Wednesday morning by Elder Ibe Thankgod, Chairman of the Accord Screening Committee and the party’s National Organising Secretary, confirmed Adeleke’s clearance.
“The governor has fulfilled all the requisite requirements for nomination and participation at the primary,” Thankgod said as he presented a certificate of clearance to Adeleke.
In response, Governor Adeleke thanked the screening committee and party leadership, affirming his readiness for both the primary and the general election.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” Adeleke stated confidently, expressing determination to lead the Accord Party to victory in 2026.
