Adeleke Faces No Rival in Osun, Accord Party Confirms

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the party’s undisputed candidate for the August 8 governorship election.

Speaking with reporters in Osogbo on Thursday, Victor Akande, Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun, dismissed claims by Clement Bamigbola of seeking the party’s ticket as a “waste of time and resources,” insisting that Adeleke’s position as flagbearer is secure.

Akande described reports of an internal faction within the party as completely baseless.

“The so-called kangaroo primary allegedly conducted by a non-existent faction is just a ruse. There is no such faction within our party structure by law,” he said.

He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has addressed similar situations in other states, including Anambra and Ekiti, and assured that the same outcome would apply in Osun.

“Those spreading rumors about a factional candidate are merely political jobbers seeking attention and personal gain. I assure you, Governor Adeleke has no rival when it comes to our party’s ticket,” Akande emphasised.

Accord Party Confident Against APC Challenge

Addressing concerns over the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Akande expressed confidence that the ruling party poses no threat to Adeleke’s re-election bid.

“We are fully aware of the APC’s record. They reduced workers to beggars through half-salary payments when they were in power. We will not allow a return to such a dark era,” he said.

Akande also reminded Osun residents of the APC’s defeat in the 2022 elections, stressing that the people would make their voices even louder in August.

“The people rejected the APC at the polls in 2022, and come August, they will reinforce that decision, making it clear that Osun does not want a return to that era of darkness,” he concluded.
