President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to the Super Eagles following their hard-earned bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), commending the team for their determination and fighting spirit after a semi-final disappointment.
The President’s commendation came after Nigeria overcame Egypt in Saturday’s third-place playoff, showcasing resilience and composure in the face of earlier setbacks.
Tinubu praised the national team for bouncing back after their semi-final exit against host nation Morocco last Wednesday, a match decided by a tense penalty shootout.
Despite that setback, the Super Eagles regrouped and produced a commanding display in the third-place match, ultimately triumphing over Egypt—a seven-time AFCON champion—via penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.
Throughout the encounter, Nigeria controlled key periods of the game, demonstrating confidence, tactical discipline, and composure against a formidable opponent.
In an official statement, President Tinubu highlighted the team’s perseverance and indomitable spirit, reflecting the resilience and determination synonymous with Nigeria.
He said, “Although the Eagles’ semi-final defeat to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday dashed the hopes of many Nigerians, our players remained steadfast. They displayed the true Nigerian spirit, and their dedication has now borne fruit.”
The President added that the nation would celebrate the team’s achievement as they received their medals in Morocco.
“On Sunday in Rabat, we will all share in the pride of seeing our gallant Super Eagles awarded their hard-earned bronze medal. Thank you, our brave players. This bronze surely feels as precious as gold,” he said.
Gossip News Now reports that Nigeria’s podium finish further enriches the country’s AFCON legacy and inspires optimism for future continental success.
