AFCON 2025: Samuel Chukwueze Teases Super Eagles Over Post-Match Interviews

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze had fans in stitches following Nigeria’s 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Chukwueze played only seven minutes in the game, which had already been decided thanks to goals from Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, and Victor Osimhen.

Lookman, who scored once and provided two assists, was named Man of the Match, narrowly missing out on a third assist after a slight deflection by Adams on a cross intended for Osimhen.

Despite limited time on the pitch, Chukwueze kept the team bus entertained, poking fun at teammates like Lookman and Calvin Bassey, whose extended post-match interviews were delaying the squad’s departure.

“If I ever win a Man of the Match, I’ll make sure to spend hours doing interviews,” he joked, much to the amusement of the team and staff.

Chukwueze’s humour has been a consistent source of levity for the Super Eagles, helping to ease tensions among younger players and lighten the mood following the recent spat between Osimhen and Lookman.

The Fulham star has featured in three matches so far—starting Nigeria’s first and last group games, while coming off the bench in the Round of 16. In every appearance, he has impressed both offensively and defensively, leaving fans eager to see more of the pacey winger as the tournament continues.

The Super Eagles are set to face Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarter-final on Saturday at 5 p.m.
