Civil rights advocate Aisha Yesufu has been named the Deputy Chairperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Membership Revalidation Committee.
The 20-member committee was formally inaugurated on Wednesday by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who described the exercise as a crucial move toward strengthening the ADC for greater “unity, expansion, internal cohesion and electoral competitiveness across the country.”
Speaking during the inauguration, Mark explained that the revalidation programme reflects the ADC’s core principles of equity, justice, transparency and governance focused on the people.
He highlighted the critical role accurate membership data plays in political organisation, stating that reliable records are “fundamental to legitimacy, relevance and national political achievements.”
The former Senate President added that the committee — established by the National Working Committee (NWC) — is tasked with implementing a nationwide process to verify existing members, register new ones, boost grassroots engagement, standardise data collection and deploy both digital and manual systems to ensure openness and thorough documentation.
Mark further revealed that the party will introduce updated membership cards embedded with state-specific security features, urging committee members to carry out their duties “with fairness, integrity and inclusiveness,” and to collaborate closely with leaders at state and local levels.
The committee is led by Kashim Imam as Chairman, with Dr. Sekonte Davies serving as Secretary. Aisha Yesufu’s appointment as Deputy Chairperson underscores the party’s intention to incorporate influential civic leaders into its reorganisation efforts.
During the inauguration, Imam assured that the committee would approach its assignment with diligence and transparency, describing the revalidation process as “a pivotal moment designed to rebuild the ADC into a participatory, people-centred political force.”
He noted that the committee has been given 30 days to complete its work and confirmed that mobilisation and registration efforts have already begun across cities, remote villages, desert regions and creek communities.
