Renowned Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has publicly declared her allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
During an address in Enugu State on Wednesday, Yesufu revealed that, although she has never formally held a membership card in any political party, she is ready to officially join the ADC and actively participate in its political agenda.
The announcement coincided with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s formal defection to the ADC at the same venue. Yesufu praised Obi as her political leader and expressed her determination to support his initiatives aimed at “rescuing Nigeria.”
Obi, who led a group of South-East leaders from the Labour Party to the ADC, highlighted the critical need for opposition unity as the country approaches the 2027 elections. “It is time for opposition leaders to come together and work collectively to rescue Nigeria,” he said, urging all opposition figures to rally under the ADC’s leadership, headed by former Senate President David Mark, to tackle the nation’s political challenges.
Reflecting on the path ahead, Obi stated, “We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey. We will resist the rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027.”
Yesufu’s endorsement represents a notable political boost for the ADC as the party positions itself for the upcoming electoral cycle, signaling growing momentum and consolidation of opposition forces.
