Amaechi Declares: “I’m Too Presidential To Be Anyone’s Vice”

Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed speculation that he could serve as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 general elections.

Reports had suggested that Amaechi might deputize Atiku, who is widely expected to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Speaking at a recent event in Abuja, Amaechi addressed the rumors directly, describing his refusal as both a matter of personal stature and the structural limitations of the vice presidency.

The former House of Assembly Speaker stated, “I will not be vice president to anybody. There are too many reasons why I won’t be vice president to anybody. The first reason is that I’m too presidential to be vice.”

Amaechi, who is also pursuing the ADC presidential nomination, argued that the office of the vice president in Nigeria is inherently subordinate and often lacks real authority, leaving the occupant dependent on the president’s disposition.

He added, “We will quarrel; instead of that, I would rather be a minister than be a vice president.”
