Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of Edo State, has lauded Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Delivery Unit, while noting that her former critics are now facing setbacks.
Oshiomhole made the remarks at a colloquium in Abuja commemorating Bala Usman’s 50th birthday. He subtly referenced Rotimi Amaechi, the former Rivers State Governor, who had previously sought Bala Usman’s suspension during his tenure as Minister of Transportation under late President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Some people drunk with power tried to discredit you and even attacked your family’s name,” Oshiomhole said, “but in the end, they ruined themselves. They are now hungry—lacking the strength to suppress even the best among us. When I heard this, I prayed that their hunger remain until they return to their creator.”
Oshiomhole emphasized Bala Usman’s resilience and accomplishments, noting her continued recognition in government. “Look at you today, celebrating your birthday with the Vice President in attendance. While those who sought to ruin you struggle, you are honoured by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chief of Staff, and all of us. This is the reward of embracing your father’s teachings and maintaining integrity.”
Recalling her early life and reputation for being “stubborn,” he praised her intellect and strategic approach, particularly during electoral processes. “When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed you as a policy advisor, it was because policy is central to governance and its outcomes determine success. He appointed you not as a favour but because your skills were essential for reform,” Oshiomhole remarked.
He went further to stress the importance of structured policymaking and reform. “Policies cannot be implemented haphazardly. Those who resist reforms often complain, but for those who are committed to progress, risks are necessary to design and execute policies that ensure tomorrow is better than today. You exemplify that approach, and it is why you remain indispensable to this administration.”
Commentary and Analysis: Oshiomhole’s statements reflect a broader narrative of political resilience and vindication. Bala Usman’s trajectory, from facing scrutiny at the NPA to holding a central advisory role in the presidency, highlights the challenges and eventual rewards of navigating Nigeria’s complex political landscape. Observers suggest that such public endorsements not only reinforce her credibility but also serve as a subtle counter to dissenting voices within and outside the administration. This scenario illustrates how political influence and strategic competence can outweigh opposition and criticism over time.
