Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has officially emerged winner of the Anambra State governorship election after the Independent National Electoral Commission concluded collation and announced the final outcome. The declaration confirms another major victory for APGA in the state and reinforces Soludo’s commanding position in Anambra politics.
The overall figures showed Soludo far ahead of the rest of the field. Out of the total votes counted statewide, he polled 422,664 to defeat his closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 99,445 votes. Other parties trailed well behind, with the ADC recording 8,208 votes and the PDP finishing with 1,401. According to Gossip News Now, the result leaves little doubt about the scale of Soludo’s advantage across the state.
Rather than being limited to one stronghold, the APGA candidate posted convincing numbers in many parts of Anambra. He dominated places such as Aguata, Awka South, Onitsha North, Ogbaru, Idemili North, and Nnewi North, while also recording strong margins in Njikoka, Anaocha, Orumba South, and Ekwusigo. In several of these councils, the gap between Soludo and his main rivals was wide enough to underline how firmly APGA maintained its grip on the contest.
One of the more striking parts of the election was the broad spread of support reflected across local government results. In Dunukofia, Awka North, Ayamelum, Oyi, and Anambra East, Soludo maintained a clear advantage, while in areas like Nnewi South and Ihiala he also stayed comfortably in front. Even in councils where opposition parties tried to make an impression, APGA remained the dominant force. The result from Anambra West stood out in particular because of the unusually high numbers credited to APGA there, further swelling Soludo’s statewide total.
The election outcome also exposed the weakness of other major parties in the race. While the APC finished second, it was still far behind the winner, and the PDP failed to mount any serious challenge. Smaller parties such as the Labour Party, YPP, and ADC posted isolated figures in some areas but did not come close to threatening APGA’s lead. By the time the final numbers were declared, the race had become less a contest of narrow margins and more a confirmation of Soludo’s overwhelming control.
With this victory now formally sealed by INEC, attention will shift to what the renewed mandate means for governance in Anambra. Soludo heads into the next phase with strengthened political legitimacy and the confidence that comes from a decisive electoral performance. For APGA, the result is another sign that the party remains deeply rooted in the state despite competition from larger national parties.
Commentary and Analysis
Soludo’s triumph is important not only because he won, but because of the manner of the victory. The margin between him and the nearest challenger suggests that APGA still enjoys a powerful brand advantage in Anambra, one that opponents have not yet found a way to break. The distribution of votes across multiple local governments also shows that the support was not isolated or accidental; it reflected a broad-based endorsement.
For the opposition, the result raises hard questions about strategy, mobilisation, and relevance in the state. A gap of this size indicates that APC, PDP, and other contenders will need more than campaign rhetoric to challenge APGA in future elections. For Soludo, however, the real test starts now. A convincing victory creates high expectations, and many voters will judge his next tenure not by the election figures but by whether he turns political dominance into visible results on the ground.
