Another Governor Poised To Join APC – Governor Sule

Spread the love

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has suggested that the All Progressives Congress may soon gain another governor, reinforcing claims that the ruling party is continuing to attract key figures from outside its fold. Speaking in Lafia, Sule described the APC as a political refuge for leaders who want to align themselves with what he portrayed as a governance-driven platform.

The governor, who also chairs the North Central Governors’ Forum, made the remarks during the North Central zonal meeting on the APC constitution review process. In his comments, he compared the party to Noah’s Ark, arguing that politicians interested in stability and effective leadership are increasingly seeing the APC as the place to be. His statement hinted that another high-profile defection could be formally announced at the next gathering of Progressive Governors.

Sule linked the party’s growing attraction to the reforms being pursued under President Bola Tinubu, saying those measures have strengthened public belief in the APC and encouraged more politicians from opposition camps to consider joining. According to Gossip News Now, his remarks were framed not only as a prediction of another defection but also as a sign that the ruling party believes it is gaining momentum ahead of future political contests.

Beyond the issue of defections, the Nasarawa governor also turned attention to the constitution review exercise within the APC. He urged stakeholders across the North Central zone to take the amendment process seriously by submitting memoranda that can help correct weaknesses and improve the party’s internal framework. He assured members that the review committee would carefully examine the proposals and make room for useful contributions.

The meeting also served as an opportunity for party leaders to publicly commend Sule’s role within the APC. Representing the national chairman, the Deputy National Secretary, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, praised the Nasarawa governor for what he described as strong leadership and visible development efforts in the state. He said Sule had remained loyal to the party and had continued to strengthen its position in Nasarawa.

Kana went further by portraying the governor as one of the APC’s standout performers, saying the party was proud of his stewardship. The praise added another layer to the event, turning it from a routine constitutional review session into a platform for reinforcing Sule’s standing within the ruling party’s national structure.

The combined message from the meeting was clear: the APC wants to present itself as both a growing political force and an organisation willing to refine its internal rules. While Sule’s hint about another incoming governor drew the most attention, the broader tone of the gathering suggested that the party is trying to project confidence, order, and expansion at the same time.

Commentary and Analysis

Governor Sule’s “Noah’s Ark” comparison was clearly designed to send a political message beyond Nasarawa. It suggests that the APC wants to frame itself as the safest and most attractive destination for ambitious politicians, especially at a time when defections remain one of the clearest signs of shifting power in Nigeria. If another governor does eventually cross over, the statement will be seen as an early signal of a broader consolidation strategy.

At the same time, the emphasis on constitutional reform shows that the APC is not only interested in growth by numbers but also in tightening its internal structure. Whether that process leads to genuine institutional improvement is another matter, but the optics are important. By combining talk of expansion with talk of internal review, the party is trying to look both strong and organised as the political landscape continues to evolve.
