Manchester City has officially secured the signing of 26-year-old winger Antoine Semenyo, who has agreed to a long-term deal spanning five-and-a-half years. The Ghanaian international is set to wear the number 42 shirt as he joins Pep Guardiola’s squad, adding significant depth and versatility to City’s attacking options.

Semenyo’s arrival follows an impressive rise through the Premier League ranks. After developing at Bristol City, with loan spells at Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland, he made a breakthrough during his mid-season move to Bournemouth in the 2022–23 campaign. Primarily deployed on the left wing, he quickly became known for his pace, strength, and ability to directly challenge defenders. Over 110 appearances with the Cherries, he showcased a consistent goal threat, earning attention from top-flight clubs.

“I’m incredibly proud to join Manchester City,” Semenyo said after completing the transfer. “The standards here are unbelievably high. The club has elite players, top-class facilities, and one of the greatest managers of all time in Pep. My best football is still ahead of me—I truly believe that.”

Already a vital figure for Ghana’s Black Stars, Semenyo is expected to provide energy and versatility for City, contributing both in attack and in pressing transitions. He is eligible for immediate selection and could feature in the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle.

Hugo Viana, City’s Director of Football, praised Semenyo’s mentality:

“From the very beginning, he made it clear Manchester City was his only choice. His passion for the club has been evident throughout the entire process. Antoine is an extremely exciting addition for us.”

Semenyo expressed enthusiasm about learning under Guardiola and competing in multiple competitions:

“I know I have a lot of room to grow, and joining City at this stage of my career feels perfect. With City competing in four competitions, I’m confident I can contribute to a strong second half of the season. The Etihad is my new home now. I can’t wait to step out in front of the fans and show everyone what I can bring to the team.”

Analysis: Semenyo’s signing represents a strategic move by City to bolster depth on the wings. His combination of speed, power, and goal-scoring ability adds a different dimension to Guardiola’s attack, complementing established stars like Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. With Semenyo capable of operating across multiple attacking positions, City gains flexibility in rotation, which will be crucial as they compete domestically and in Europe during the congested second half of the season.
