Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who identifies as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that the party’s internal leadership dispute has been fully resolved.
He said the controversy rocking the opposition party was conclusively addressed by a recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, which he described as a turning point for the PDP’s stability.
Anyanwu made the declaration on Thursday while addressing journalists after a meeting between leaders of political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to him, his faction will resume control of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja by Monday.
He maintained that the court order which earlier prompted security agencies to seal the party’s headquarters has effectively been nullified by the Ibadan court judgment, clearing the way for normal operations to resume.
The senator emphasized that the latest ruling has laid the foundation for the PDP’s quick recovery, insisting that there is no longer any leadership vacuum within the party.
According to Anyanwu, the legitimate leadership of the PDP is now firmly under Abdulrahman Mohammed, whom he described as the party’s authentic National Chairman.
He further stated that the judgment has removed all legal uncertainties surrounding the party’s ability to present candidates in the 2027 general elections, reassuring members who were previously worried about disqualification.
“There is no faction in the PDP anymore,” Anyanwu said. “We have one united party in Nigeria under the leadership of our chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.”
He explained that although the party previously faced serious internal challenges, the court clearly ruled that the controversial convention held on November 15–16, 2025, was invalid. The judgment, he said, also barred any individual outside the recognized National Working Committee from presenting themselves as PDP chairman.
Anyanwu added that only the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed now has the authority to administer and speak on behalf of the party.
He also recalled that when security operatives sealed the secretariat, a rival group approached the court seeking an order to reopen it, but their request was dismissed on the grounds that they lacked the legal standing to make such a demand.
Concluding, Anyanwu reiterated that party members across the country are relieved by the development, noting that fears over participation in future elections have now been put to rest.
“By Monday, we are taking over the office. The issue is settled, and our members are happy because they can now focus on preparing for the next election,” he said.
